Hunger is Here
Hunger is morally and socially unacceptable, but for 52,000 of our neighbors in Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri hunger is a reality. That’s why we are asking you to be part of the solution.
Hunger is here, So is the Solution.
- Advocate: Discover the true face of hunger by reviewing important hunger facts. Also, learn about current hunger issues and how you can make your voice heard to policy makers.
- Participate: We can’t do it without you! Find out how you can make a difference by volunteering your time at Second Harvest.
- Donate: When you give with a generous heart you help so many. Click here to see who is a part of the solution.
A Hunger-Free Community Must:
- Ensure individuals have access to vital nutrition assistance programs: Programs include Close the Gap, Summer Food Service Program and the Senior Box Program.
- Create access to healthy, nutritious food in a dignified and socially acceptable manner: Implement the Choosing Healthy Options Program, increase Backpack Buddies participation to 3,000 children by June 2013, expand distribution to 7 million pounds by June 2014, launch the Mobile Food Pantry Program and convert Harvest House to a Community Food Center Model.
- Embrace and act upon the core belief that hunger is unacceptable: Have the community belief that hunger is a problem in our region and act upon the belief that hunger is unacceptable.
