NBC Nightly News: Growing Sense of Hope in Devastated Joplin

During extremely difficult times the City of Joplin and the Ozarks Food Harvest helped put a community back together. 

Reports have surfaced that one of the most basic needs — food — could become a crisis for those who depend on organizations like Ozarks Food Harvest and the 300 or so relief groups it serves. The need for donated food has doubled since the tornado but supplies are dwindling rather quickly at Food Harvest’s warehouse in Springfield. Americans opened their hearts and wallets right after the storm to help folks in Joplin. No one really knew then just how much help people would need.

ADVOCACY ALERT: President and Congressional Leaders Reach Debt Ceiling/Deficit Reduction Agreement

President Obama and Congressional leaders agreed to a deal that (pending final approval by the House and Senate) will raise the government's debt ceiling and prevent the government from a potentially catastrophic credit default.

The deal raises the debt ceiling through 2012 while making immediate cuts to discretionary spending and creating a special joint committee of Congress to propose a plan for further deficit reduction.

My Hunger Story

I'm a 31 year old, St. Joseph mom of three kids...but also a recovering hungry child. I say "recovering" because I don't know if there will ever be a time when I go grocery shopping and don't overstock and overspend on food, simply for security.
