Volunteer at Second Harvest

We couldn’t do it without you. Volunteers gave Second Harvest Community Food Bank nearly 11,000 hours of hands on help last year. That help included everything from repacking food to assisting at special events.  Volunteers helped Second Harvest nourish 11,000 of our hungry neighbors each month. If you are interested in volunteering call or Donna Thompson at 816-364-3663 X. 209.

Volunteer Activities

Food Sorting

Help in the Warehouse; the majority of the food that Second Harvest receives arrives in bulk, too big for a family’s or agency’s needs. Our volunteers take these bulk items and repackage them into family or individual sizes. They also assemble boxes with assorted food from food drives, check expiration dates and pack bags for Backpack Buddies.

Harvest House

Harvest House is Second Harvest’s on-site food pantry. This is where we can get to help individuals on a one-to-one basis, serving 400 to 500 families per week. We need help in stocking our shelves and making sure that everything is ready when families come to shop. If you’re a “people person” and like to work in front of the scene, this is a great opportunity for you.

Special Events

Signing up “walkers,” receiving registration fees and talking about Second Harvest at a Fair or event. Does this sound like a good time? Then we would love to have you volunteer at one of our many special events. Held throughout the year, it’s a great way to meet people and advocate for the hungry in our area.
