WHAT IS CAMPUS CUPBOARD?

HUNGER CAN AFFECT ANY AGE!

The Campus Cupboard program is a food pantry on school grounds that students and their families can have ready access to nutritious food. The cupboard is available to any enrolled student and their family members. Campus Cupboard is open school campus sites during scheduled hours of operation of the school year.

Many families struggle with hunger, and since the Backpack Buddies program does not extend into the higher grade levels, food availability and hunger for students is still an issue, no matter what age.  The pantry is stocked with healthy food supplied by Second Harvest Community Food Bank. Families have access to the pantry on a first come, first served basis.

Campus Cupboard provides an opportunity for the marketing students to have practical application of the skills they are learning in the classroom. Students do everything from stocking the pantry to ordering the food from Second Harvest.

Beginning Fall of 2014, Campus Cupboard is being expanded to more schools!

Starting September 30: Spring Garden Middle School and Robidoux Middle School

Starting October 1: Lafayette High School, Benton High School and Central High School

Starting October 13: Truman Middle School and Bode Middle School

The first Campus Cupboard at Colgan Alternative Resource Center is now in its third year!

Campus Cupboard is a food pantry located on the campus of Colgan Alternative Resource Center in St. Joseph, Missouri. The pantry is available to families with children enrolled at Colgan. It is stocked with healthy food supplied by Second Harvest Community Food Bank. Families have access to the pantry on a first come, first served basis.

Campus Cupboard began in 2012 as a pilot program to test the effectiveness of having an on-site food pantry available at a school, and to measure its sustainability and effectiveness in reducing food insecurity for children and families.
