Fresh Start is Second Harvest's onsite food pantry. Fresh Start, located on Second Harvest’s campus, sits on the northern edge of one very large food desert. The food desert in St. Joseph limits access to fresh, nutritious foods to those who live in those areas. The presence of Fresh Start in a food desert will ensure expanded access to fresh foods.
Fresh Start serves as a community food pantry. To shop at Fresh Start, a person must first obtain a Yellow Card. Community members who have a household income of less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Guideline will qualify for membership. That means if you are a family of four and make less than $46,000, you may be eligible to access Fresh Start.
