As we rush into the holiday season and begin celebrating events and deals found on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we are reminded on #GivingTuesday that we are very fortunate to be able to celebrate all the deals one might find. During the holiday season and winter months many families in the region deal with increased utility costs, tax bills coming due and little ones hoping Santa comes through this year.
Because of donors who support Second Harvest Community Food Bank, we are able to help nourish approximately 15,000 families across the region. For every $5 donated Second Harvest can turn that into fifteen meals for individuals in need. Your support helps many families struggling this holiday season keep food on the table.
At Second Harvest, we take an extra step to ensure good stewardship of donations received. For the fourth year in a row Second Harvest has received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest independent evaluator of charities which examines a charity’s financial health, accountability and transparency. Second Harvest is the first charity in the region to be accredited through the Better Business Bureau’s Standards for Charity Accountability.
So as you consider making a donation today for #GivingTuesday, we encourage you to look to Second Harvest as a great opportunity to help give back this holiday season. You can be sure your donation will help make a family’s holiday a little brighter this season.
