Hunger can affect our neighbors at any season of life. One out of every five individuals we serve at Second Harvest Community Food Bank is a senior. When seniors are forced to make difficult choices about whether to pay for medical care or buy groceries, Second Harvest can provide relief.
Our senior members can receive assistance through Senior Boxes, a program that provides nourishing food to food insecure seniors. A Senior Box includes 35 pounds of healthy foods, including canned protein, juice, vegetables, fruit and cereal. Across Northwest Missouri, 1219 boxes and Northeast Kansas, 75 boxes are provided to seniors through the USDA Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP).
Get involved with Senior Boxes today. Sign up to volunteer, or contact Valerie Brandt by calling 816-364-3663, ext.208 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Second Harvest requires volunteers every month to pack boxes and distribute these important resources to our seniors.
