Gary Kincaid: A Volunteer’s Vision for a Hunger-Free Community

posted in: Story | 0

Second Harvest Community Food Bank provides assistance to more than 15,000 individuals each week. We rely on the commitment of our volunteers in our direct programs and at our Partner Agencies.

We’d like you to meet one person you will see rolling his sleeves up to help serve regularly at Second Harvest. His name is Gary Kincaid, a dedicated board member and volunteer with more than a decade of service in our programs.

Gary is committed to hunger-free communities because, as he says, “as responsible community members we are called to respond to the needs of our neighbors.” Gary’s warm smile and calm personality put our members at ease as they come to Second Harvest. Gary knows that most of the members that utilize our services are experiencing an unusual situation that is making it hard for them to make ends meet, such as a loss of employment or a medical crisis.

Gary and his son, Jeff, also give to Second Harvest’s mission through Kincaid Plant Markers, a family-run business of stainless steel and steel-blend plant markers, shipped across the U.S. and to international locations. Each sale of Kincaid Plant Markers benefits Backpack Buddies, a program that sends food home on the weekends for children who may otherwise go hungry during breaks from school meals.

If you run into Gary at Second Harvest, he will tell you that his time at Second Harvest is a way for him to be “directly engaged in making a difference.” Gary is, indeed, making a difference in the community. Come and join him in helping our mission to build hunger-free communities.
